Understanding Your Health: Medical Tests and Lab Work at Sheridan Medical Group

At Sheridan Medical Group, we offer a comprehensive range of medical tests and lab work to provide valuable insights into your health and guide your care. These diagnostic tools play a crucial role in detecting illnesses, monitoring chronic conditions, and assessing your overall well-being. Our experienced medical team utilizes these resources to ensure you receive accurate diagnoses and personalized treatment plans.

Here's a closer look at the specific medical tests and lab work we offer:

Specific Labs: These blood and urine tests provide essential information about various aspects of your health.

  • INR (International Normalized Ratio): This blood test is crucial for individuals taking anticoagulants like warfarin. It measures how quickly your blood clots and helps ensure your medication dosage is effective and safe, reducing the risk of bleeding or clotting.
  • Hemoglobin A1C: This blood test provides an average of your blood sugar levels over the past 2-3 months. It's a key indicator for managing diabetes and pre-diabetes, helping your healthcare team assess how well your treatment plan is working.
  • Hemoglobin: This blood test measures the amount of hemoglobin in your red blood cells, which carry oxygen throughout your body. It helps detect conditions like anemia (low red blood cell count) or polycythemia (high red blood cell count).
  • Urine Analysis: This test examines the components of your urine to detect a wide range of conditions, including urinary tract infections (UTIs), kidney disease, and diabetes. It can provide valuable clues about your overall health.
  • Glucose: This blood test measures the level of glucose (sugar) in your blood at a specific point in time. It's essential for diagnosing and monitoring diabetes and other conditions affecting blood sugar levels.
  • Urine Pregnancy Test: This simple test detects the presence of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) in urine, confirming pregnancy.
  • Strep Testing: This quick test determines if a sore throat is caused by Streptococcus bacteria, the cause of strep throat. Prompt diagnosis and treatment with antibiotics can prevent complications.
  • Mono Testing: This blood test helps diagnose mononucleosis, a contagious disease caused by the Epstein-Barr virus, by detecting specific antibodies.
  • Occult Blood Test: This test checks for hidden (occult) blood in your stool, which can be an early sign of gastrointestinal bleeding or colorectal cancer.
  • HIV Testing: We offer confidential HIV tests to screen for the Human Immunodeficiency Virus, providing crucial information for early diagnosis and treatment.
  • Flu and COVID Testing: Rapid and accurate tests are available to diagnose influenza and COVID-19, enabling timely treatment and measures to prevent spread.

Diagnostic Procedures: These tests and procedures provide different types of information about your body's functions and structures.

  • EKG (Electrocardiogram): This non-invasive test records the electrical activity of your heart. It helps detect irregularities in your heart rhythm, heart damage, and other cardiac conditions.
  • Casting and Splinting: Our medical team provides expert casting and splinting services to immobilize and support fractured bones, sprains, and other musculoskeletal injuries, promoting proper healing.
  • Hearing Testing (Audiometry): This series of tests evaluates your ability to hear different sounds at various frequencies and volumes. It helps identify hearing loss and determine its type and severity.
  • Spirometry: This lung function test measures how much air you can inhale and exhale and how quickly you can exhale. It's essential for diagnosing and monitoring respiratory conditions like asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
  • Ear Flush: This procedure gently removes excess earwax or foreign objects from the ear canal, helping to restore hearing and alleviate discomfort.
  • Nebulizer Treatment: This involves using a nebulizer machine to deliver liquid medication as a fine mist into the lungs, commonly used for respiratory conditions like asthma or COPD.
  • Pulse Oximetry (Pulseox): A non-invasive test that measures the oxygen saturation level in your blood and your pulse rate, providing a quick assessment of respiratory and cardiac function.
  • PPD Placement and Read (Tuberculosis Skin Test): This test screens for tuberculosis (TB) infection. A small amount of fluid is injected under the skin, and the reaction is read within 48-72 hours to determine exposure.
  • Retinal Eye Exam: A comprehensive examination of the retina at the back of the eye, often performed to detect conditions like diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, or macular degeneration.

Preventive Care: We also offer important preventive services:

  • Seasonal Flu Shots: Vaccination against influenza (the flu) is a crucial step in protecting yourself and others from this contagious respiratory illness. We offer seasonal flu shots to help keep our community healthy.
  • Routine Immunizations: Staying up-to-date on recommended vaccines is one of the most effective ways to prevent serious infectious diseases. We offer a range of routine vaccinations for adults and children, including COVID and RSV, as well as Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis (Tdap), and other essential immunizations.
  • Cryotherapy: This procedure involves freezing and removing abnormal tissue, such as warts, skin tags, and some precancerous lesions.

If your primary care provider or medical home team recommends any of these medical tests or procedures, please know that our dedicated team is here to ensure you receive accurate and timely results in a comfortable and supportive environment. Don't hesitate to ask any questions you may have about these important aspects of your care.
